Introduction The movie Hoot was created in 2006 based off the book that was originally written four years prior. The main conflict of the movie was a disagreement between business expansion and environmental protection. The story is set in the small town of Coconut Cove, Florida, where almost the entire town is excited for a new pancake house named Mother Paula’s. But what the public does not know is that there is an endangered species of owls living in burrows right where the pancake house is meant to be built. Three kids learn about the owls and make it their responsibility to make sure that the pancake house is never built and the owls be protected. APR Overview The APR is intended to be a university’s team academic measurement over a four year period. It was widely considered a reform effort to increase graduation rates among student-athlete in Division I athletics. The APR is calculated by a series of steps relating to a student-athletes eligibility, and graduation rates. In the APR calculation each student that is on scholarship receives one point for staying in school as well as being academically eligible. The total amount of teams points are calculated, and divided by the maximum amount of possible points a team can earn. Then the number is multiplied by 1000 and that is used to determine the teams APR for that academic year. The NCAA warrants consistency among institutions,†¦show more content†¦Currently in 2015 all teams are mandated to earn a 930 over a four year period, and a 940 two years prior to participate in post season bowls or championships. There are consequences for not meeting the APR, and the first penalty is a university losing practice hours in season and off season. That penalty is regarded as a level I penalty, and there a three levels of consequences for teams not meeting the APR standards. A team is permitt ed 20 hours a week over six day period, and that includes hours allocated for game day events. Under APR sanctions a tea, will lose four hours a week bringing the total 16 hours a week. The four hours that are lost will be used for academic activities during the week. The added study hall hours will aid a student-athlete and help the team become more academically stable in the years to come. That penalty is regarded as a level I penalty, and there a two levels of consequences for teams not meeting the APR standards. Level II penalties strips universities teams from additional practice time, and completion decline in post season play. Those penalties are enforced is a university team fails to rectify the problems that led to the initial penalties that were placed. Teams also lose privileges from participating in organized off season practice such as spring football. African Dimensions Of The Stono Rebellion Essay When studying the Stono Rebellion of 1739, historians only had one eyewitness report of this. I think the reason they didnt document it very well was because the Southerners were so outnumbered by the slaves, they didnt want the other slaves to get ideas of rebellion. The historians also failed to look at the big picture. What they were in Africa. This played a big role in the Stono Rebellion. To understand the full role of Africa, one has to look at the kingdom of Kongo between 1680 and 1740 rather than just a broad overview of the African culture. This is due to the diversity of the Africans language and culture. Part of this uprising is due to the Spanish Roman Catholic Jesuits. Their job was to convince people to convert back to Catholicism, using violence when necessary. The Jesuits told these Angolan slaves to runaway and then they would have freedom. These slaves probably did what they said because that was their religion. The slaves were from a Portuguese Colony and spoke Portuguese. This language is very close to Spanish. The Spanish most likely told the slaves this so it would weaken the English settlements, maybe the Spanish could have taken over, but well never really know. On the slave trade, one town was almost always on their trip down the West Coast of Africa. This town was Kabinda. They got their slaves mainly from the kingdom of Kongo. There was a lot going on in this region. A lot of civil wars were happening and the defeated were sold as slaves. Because they had wars all of the time; these people were very well trained for war. These people were very proud of their catholic religion. In this Portuguese region, they had very nice schools and churches. When these Angolan slaves got to South Carolina, they must have been outraged. Here these well-educated, very well trained people were slaves now for ignorant farmers. They also had their religious leaders (Jesuits) telling them to run away. They were mistreated on their farm. And since they were fighters, thats exactly what they did fight. Their African decent was overlooked for years, but I feel it was more important than the mistreatment on the farm. If they wouldve won, we could be speaking Spanish or be an all black country like Haiti.
